Colts choose QB for both first and last pick of 2012 NFL Draft
The Indianapolis Colts ended the 2012 NFL Draft by picking quarterback Chandler Harnish from Northern Illinois. And thus ended the draft: quarterback for the first overall pick by the Colts, and another quarterback for the last pick of the draft, also by the Colts.
This was a historic first for both the Colts and the NFL. Indianapolis started the 2012 Draft by picking Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and ending it by picking another quarterback in Harnish. It was the first time since 1967 that a non-expansion team had the first and last picks of the draft and a third time for the league.
The previous two teams did not pick the same player position for as their choices.
Harnish, an Indiana native, was just so happy to be drafted by his favorite NFL team and be a potential back up for Luck. Harnish and his agent were already preparing for free agency until he heard his name called.
Colts to pick Luck?
With less than a week to go before the annual NFL Draft, a source inside the league has disclosed that the Indianapolis Colts have already informed Stanford University quarterback Andrew Luck that they will take him with their No. 1 draft pick.
The Colts will want Andrew Luck to replace the loss of their star quarterback Peyton Manning, and Luck is the one that the Colts want to build around. Team owner Jim Irsay has often mentioned that they will use their No. 1 pick to select Manning’s replacement.
With Luck out at No. 1, the Washington Redskins are looking into drafting Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III with their No. 2 choice.
The Minnesota Vikings have the No. 3 pick and it seems that they should choose USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil to fill in their needs and also to protect second-year quarterback Christian Ponder.
Things aren’t done yet as some surprise picks are likely to happen on draft day itself. Stay tuned and closely follow the 2012 NFL Draft to see if your team has selected the right person for the job.
